RMI India Foundation

Role: Communications Fellow | Location: New Delhi

Role Summary:

RMI India Foundation is looking for an energetic, organized, and curious Communications Fellow to join the India Communications team. The Fellow will work closely with a communications team that brings experience from India and across global markets, gaining first-hand exposure to how communications teams operate across programmes, partners, events, campaigns, media, and internal stakeholders.

This is not a research or writing role. The Fellow will help connect the dots across people and projects: coordinating with teams, reviewing first drafts, following up on deliverables, supporting events and engagements, keeping processes moving, and stepping in wherever additional capacity is needed.

The fellowship is designed as a learning-intensive role with the potential for growth. In addition to day-to-day responsibilities, selected candidate may be able to explore a  year-long objective as a capstone project. As the Fellow builds context, confidence, and judgement, they will have opportunities to take greater ownership of projects and develop the skills needed for broader communications responsibilities in the future.

Core Responsibilities

  • Work closely with communications colleagues and programme teams to move projects from planning to execution.
  • Coordinate timelines, meetings, deliverables, vendors, and other moving pieces across multiple workstreams.
  • Follow up with internal and external stakeholders to ensure deliverables stay on track.
  • Maintain calendars, trackers, media lists, and communications plans.

  • Review first drafts of communications materials such as press releases, LinkedIn posts, reports, event collaterals, and similar products.
  • Coordinate feedback between programme teams, communications colleagues, designers, agencies, and other contributors.
  • Track revisions, approvals, and production timelines to help ensure materials are delivered on time.
  • Over time, build the context and judgement to identify gaps, flag issues, and suggest improvements before materials move forward.

Help make things happen

  • Provide hands-on support during events, meetings, workshops, launches, shoots, and external engagements.
  • Coordinate with designers, agencies, vendors, partners, and other collaborators.

Learn how strategic communications works

  • Work alongside colleagues with experience across communications, media, policy, campaigns, and global organisations.
  • Gain exposure to how communications priorities are set and how campaigns and projects are planned and delivered.
  • Participate in team discussions, planning processes, and interactions with programme teams and external partners.

What we are looking for:

We are looking for someone who is less interested in having a perfectly defined job description and more interested in learning quickly, being useful, and becoming a trusted member of the team.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a reputed institution.
  • 2-3 years of experience in client-facing communications, nonprofit communications, project management, stakeholder engagement, journalism or a related field.
  • Experience supporting the execution of meetings, events, or stakeholder convenings, including coordinating logistics and participant communications.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities accurately and reliably.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to follow through on tasks and commitments.

You might be a strong fit if you have:

  • Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively across multiple teams, stakeholders, and workstreams.
  • Strong judgement and discretion in handling confidential or sensitive information.
  • Highly organised and comfortable keeping track of multiple moving pieces in a fast-paced environment where priorities may change.
  • Proactive in following up, taking initiative, and identifying what is needed to keep work moving forward.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an interest in working collaboratively with colleagues across different teams and levels of seniority.
  • Comfortable asking questions, seeking clarity, and learning through hands-on experience.
