We support India’s net-zero goals through transformative actions
in the built environment by partnering with key stakeholders in
the sector, including central-, state- and local-level governments authorities,
industry players; financial institutions; subject matter experts
and academia.

Why it matters

India is set to more than double its building space over the next two decades, with 70% of the new construction happening in urban areas. The buildings sector likely provides an enormous opportunity for reducing Green House Gas (GHG) emissions emissions as it also drives sustainability in the numerous allied industries upstream and downstream of the value chain.

India has a unique opportunity to provide thermally comfortable and zero-carbon buildings and, in doing so, give scale to manufacturing low-carbon materials, adopting sustainable design and construction practices, and creating and sustaining a market for innovative technologies. This represents a historic opportunity to illustrate resilient, prosperous development that is decoupled from carbon. A whole systems approach can provide enormous opportunities to lower embodied carbon emissions and reduce operational
consumption while simultaneously increasing clean energy usage and improving the standard of living.

Ongoing projects

Lodha and RMI India Foundation: Net Zero Urban Accelerator

The “Net Zero Urban Accelerator” is an exciting next step in the long-standing collaboration between the Lodha group and RMI India Foundation. The Accelerator’s objective is to make net-zero the new normal for new developments while improving resilience, accessibility, and affordability of low-carbon building materials and clean energy services for all. To maximize the building sector’s contribution to India’s 2070 net-zero emissions target, the Accelerator will establish a leadership collaboration with developers, manufacturers, and solution providers to jumpstart market transformation.

The Lodha group’s flagship Palava city project has the potential to be a unique living laboratory to the Accelerator, pioneering net-zero solutions and serving as a lighthouse example for new developments in India. With its rapid pace of ongoing development, the Lodha group can offer large economies of scale to unlock emerging sustainable solutions and simultaneously advance the industry towards net-zero operations and construction, providing momentum to India’s clean energy transition.
